The story of Sakiori is one of revival and renewal that deeply resonated with the founder.

The Sakiori weaving style was prevalent in 18th century Japan at a time when cotton was a luxury item. Sakiori weaving was traditionally done by the matriarch using available scraps to create new garments for their family.

A time when getting access to fiber, fabric and yarn meant waiting for years to afford enough material to dress yourself. The logo image is a representation of those fibers.

Such a time is unimaginable today with the rise of fast fashion. And yet, today's drive towards over-consumption has led to us feeling like we have a wardrobe full of clothes and ‘Nothing to Wear’.

Sakiori is a reckoner of how people throughout history have found ingenious ways to live their best life. It is a living interpretation of how our own selves are a combination of many different fibers woven together to form a whole with every experience adding something unique.

Clothing made from sakiori repurposed cotton was sturdier, warmer and softer than single yarn fibers of the time. And aren’t we kinder, more balanced and more accepting due to all the experiences we have had?
