A Letter from Our Founder

The story of SAKIORI begins with an old Japanese weaving tradition that has stayed with me for a long time.

In 18th-century Japan, cotton and silk were precious and often difficult to afford. Sakiori weaving gave new life to materials that were already available. Traditionally, women would weave together small pieces of fabric to create something new for their families.

What came from this process was often stronger, warmer and softer than the original material.

I found something beautiful in that idea.

Our lives are much the same. We are shaped by everything we experience - the places we go, the people we meet, the choices we make, and the things that challenge and change us. Each experience becomes another thread in who we are.

That thought stayed with me as I reflected on the women I had worked alongside over the years: leaders, founders, professionals and dreamers. Women moving between boardrooms, airports, meetings and milestones, building lives and careers of their own.

And yet, when it came to clothing, many were still dressing around expectations.

That is where SAKIORI began.

I wanted to create a different approach to women's officewear in India: one that brings together elegance, comfort and a more considered approach to what we wear.

At the heart of SAKIORI is one simple question:

Does this help a woman show up as herself layered on who the world expects her to be?

I don't believe clothing should change who you are.

It should help you feel more like yourself.

The name SAKIORI is a reminder of what can happen when different threads come together to create something stronger and more meaningful. In many ways, that is what community means to me too. We are all shaped by different experiences, yet those experiences can bring us together without taking away what makes each of us unique.

Today, as you join the Founding Circle, you become part of the very beginning of this story.

Over the coming months, I'll be sharing the ideas, experiences, inspirations and decisions that are shaping SAKIORI not just what we're making, but why we're making it.

And I hope that somewhere along the way, you'll find a part of your own story in ours.
